Descriptive Writing

Personifications-the attribution of a personal nature or character to inanimate objects or abstract notions, esp. as a rhetorical figure.
Alliterations-the commencement of two or more words of a word group with the same letter, as in apt alliteration's artful aid.

Onomatopoeia-the formation of a word, as cuckoo or boom, by imitation of a sound made by or associated with its referent.

Similes-an instance of such a figure of speech or a use of words exemplifying it.
Metaphors-something used, or regarded as being used, to represent something else; emblem; symbol.
Hyperbole-obvious and intentional exaggeration.

Oxymoron-a figure of speech by which a locution produces an incongruous, seemingly self-contradictory effect, as in “cruel kindness” or “to make haste slowly.”

Puns-the humorous use of a word or phrase so as to emphasize or suggest its different meanings or applications, or the use of words that are alike or nearly alike in sound but different in meaning; a play on words.
